Richmond Relay - 1969-70
37. In the Field with Microwave Van
I was working in the van when the Moon Landing took place July'69 and saw the replay of it later on the TV news when my shift ended and I returned to K-6. The mobile van team would take turns trying to rest on the floor next to the hot power supply units because it was the only area in the equipment filled van. You were also constantly wet from monsoon rains and could still get a chill and night. During the day it was hot and humid, wet and muddy. Inside the microwave van it was hot and there were only a few small fans blowing hot air out attempting to cool it down some. We used AN/TRC-29 transmitters / receivers and TCC-13 pulse coded modulation multiplex equipment. This was the only microwave radio equipment used in Korea that I was trained in at Ft Monmouth. I had never seen VHF radio equipment or a switchboard before at all. ⇦ Back to Page 36 Return to Page 5 On to Page 38 ⇨ |
