Tacoma Relay - 1969-70
49. Radio Equipment at Tacoma Site
The dominant feature of the site from a distance was the large water tower and broadcast antenna. The site had a double gated entrance and a helipad to the right side of it. There was a small guard shed at the gate and our Day Room was a Quonset hut on the left. We did not spend much time in the day room even though it had a pool table and ping pong table for entertainment. It was cold in the winter and hot in the summer so we viewed our movies in another smaller room on one end of the E.M. Barracks. The E.M. (enlisted men) barracks was built of blocks. It was up a small incline past the gate and on the right side of the pad on top of the hill. The other site structures were located on the same level. Behind the E.M. Barracks was the NCO Barracks. Site Chief SCF Diaz had replaced SFC Summerville that went to Bucket Site on Osan AB early in 1970 and Cole and I had our rooms here. It was also built of block and had a small setting room mostly used for our Happy Hours and a latrine with showers as did the other barracks. ⇦ Back to Page 48 Return to Page 7 On to Page 50 ⇨ |
