Richmond Relay Station Richmond Relay - 1969-70 50. Mr. U Yong Im, Our Korean Tech

Our duty shifts were 8-10 hrs duration and consisted mainly of recording equipment meter readings, cleaning, minor repairs and keeping the site log of daily events. Mr. U Young Im did not work nights so we were on our own for minor problems. However, if there was a major equipment outage we would send a vehicle to Kunsan and pick up the technician at his home and bring him back to site to help.

One time there was a problem and SFC Diaz went to pick up Mr. Im in town but by the time they got back to the site I had fixed the problem and was setting in the Mess Hall having a cup of coffee. I felt good that I was able to fix the problem but I really don't know what I did to fix it. A case of I'd rather be lucky than smart I guess.

I sprained my ankle several times while running to fix a problem in radio operations in the middle of the night. My ankle was never the same after I sprained it so I kept re- injuring it. I also fell on the ice and injured my knee and had to use a cane to walk with for awhile.
