Richmond Relay - 1969-70
56. Korean Chige or Pickup Truck
The kitchen staff included Mr.Cha and one other cook; I can not remember his name, and a helper Mr. Nam. We had a house boy Melvin, laundry man Mr. Nam, two guards and a couple of generator men again whose names I have forgotten. We also had a local farmer that hauled away the site garbage and grass clippings. He used the centuries old backpack called the Chige which was difficult to manage with a full load on it. I tried as other GIs tried to use it but tipped over after walking only one or two steps. This always entertained the Koreans and I wonder if ANY soldier has ever managed to handle the Korean pick-up truck effectively. ⇦ Back to Page 55 Return to Page 8 On to Page 57 ⇨ |
