Richmond Relay Station Richmond Relay - 1969-70 78. On Coffee Break

I felt good that I was skilled enough to pass the practical driving test for Richmond Site. Newcomers to the company went to a class to get their international driving license as this was a requirement but I was proud to be a "Richmond Roadrunner" because I earned it the hard way. It meant that I could do more than operate the radios I had been trained on. Now I could also help support our site and the site's mission by becoming a truck driver.

In addition to the good feeling that came with qualifying as a "Richmond Roadrunner" driver I got an honorary hat to wear. It was a marine style field cap that had an embroidered roadrunner with the slogan "Richmond Roadrunners" on it. I wore it most of the time in Korea as I did not like the Army's new style of ball cap because it was too stiff for me. I still have my old roadrunner cap although it does not fit my fat head anymore.    Hi-Res Pic (99K)
