Richmond Relay - 1969-70
79. Richmond Relay Site Plot
The United States, United Nations and the Republic of Korea have been defending the South Korean peninsula against communist aggression and nuclear threats for decades during the period known as the "Cold War." The major component of the U.S. forces in S. Korea is the 8th U.S. Army (EUSA) which is composed of many various units, detachments and groups of all types of war fighters and the necessary support services. The 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade was and still is one of these combat arms in Korea and assigned the 581st Signal Radio Relay Company to handle its communications for a period. Other similar radio relay and communication units included the 5761st Signal Company, EUSA's 8226th Signal Battalion Long-Lines (AU) and the 2nd and 3rd Radio Relay Squadron, 5th Communications Group, 5th Air Force. My unit STRATCOM has been one of many various signal and communication elements that have provided and carried out the many various missions associated with connecting command and troops together for operational success in South Korea.
