Richmond Relay - 1969-70
81. U.S. Army Unit Pin
In the U.S. Army unit pins are worn on the various uniforms including the hat, collar and the shoulder tabs. These function to identify individual commands, armies, battalions, corps and others elements of service. The Distinctive Unit Insignia for the Strategic Communications Command (STRATCOM) was approved for official use by the Institute of Heraldry Feb.27, 1969. It consists of a scroll bearing "Voice of the Army" on the top of the pin insignia and a gridline globe like on the shoulder patch. There are 3 swords dissecting the globe with 6 electronic flashes in-between the swords and forming a network all around the world. The swords are indicative of the military establishment supported by communications controlled by Command and also refer to operational readiness around the globe. The globe represents the world wide aspects of communication and the electrical flashes refer to its dynamic strategic capabilities. ⇦ Back to Page 80 Return to Page 11 On to Page 82 ⇨ |
