The photo was taken in October 1976, this was in the south end of the city in front of then "Engine #5" a new Engine # 5 has since been built. My fire career began by chance as I was walking a dog that belonged to a friend.

I took the dog for a walk to the park and past a fire station where I saw one of my friends working at this fire house, we greeted each other talked and I mentioned that I had just got back from Korea and was unemployed. One of the Chief officers asked if I would be interested in being a fireman and if so I should go down to City Hall, I did just that the very next day as I needed a job. I was called that very same week to come down to City Hall to be sworn in. That was August 11, 1958.
