Elements of the 1st Marine Provisional Brigade landed on 2 August at Masan to help support the Pusan Perimeter. On 7 August they moved into the line with Army 5th RCT and elements 25th Infantry Division. The Marines would later join the 1st Marine Division for the invasion of Inchon. But right now they needed to resist the North Korean People's Army push to eject the UN Command from Korea. The situation had become quite desperate. Marine air forces also supplied tactical air support from Carrier-based squadrons. Enemy resistance became so shattered by the 9th that the Red Korean machine of invasion went into reverse for the first time.
