The First and fifth Marines performed the initial invasion of Inchon. The Seventh Marines still were traveling from their distant locations and would join the Division. The Seventh will arrive in Inchon on 21 September. They had arrived from duty in the Mediterranean on duty with the Sixth Fleet. Major Maurice E. Roach had been assigned Commander of the 3rd Battalion. Other portions of the Seventh Marines had sailed from San Diego. Sgt. Stan Smith was with the group from San Diego.
