Carl Hughes and the 581st Signal Radio Relay Company - Page 5 Tamioka Japan We stayed at an old Japanese sea plane base, Tamioka Japan, where we unpacked our equipment from the states and repacked it for use in Korea. We then boarded landing-type ships for the landing at Inchon. Before leaving Tamioka we were given passes to visit Yokohama and one evening two and a half ton trucks driven by the police and filled with ladies of the night screaming "No worry G I we be back!" went by. The streets were filled with Seventh Infantry men who were temporally living on troop ships waiting for the landing at Inchon. Just before we left, Andreas Meisels suggested that we go to Tokyo and have a good dinner. We took the train and he was able to locate a nice restaurant for us. He introduced me to something other than hot dogs and hamburgers. We did shock the waitress with our ability to eat all of the fine breads and soups that she could find. |
