Birds Observed at Our Pleasant Hill, Oregon Home
Location in Oregon
Ring-necked Pheasant Phasianus Colchicus. Common in open woods and on farmland in brush, hedgerows and cornfields. Flight is strong but only for short distances. Pheasants roost in trees. Feeds mostly on waste grains, seeds and berries. We have lots of wild blackberries here. This bird originated from China in 1881 when 30 birds were released in Oregon. Since then they have been introduced in many part of the United States successfully. Sometimes referred to as a China Pheasant. Several pairs of these pretty birds prowl our woodlots and pastures. |
