Tachycineta bicolor - Common nester in tree cavities or nest boxes, especially near water. Song is of separate liquid notes. These fellows are daily welcome visitors at our house. They begin early in the morning diving and swooping here and there for insects they catch on the fly. About six of them spend the day happily munching on our bountiful supply of winged insects. They have the day duty and then in the evening a flock of bats take up duty to finish off the night flying insects. We are happy to have both. Several have occupied some nests we put up for them. |
