Bird Ecosystem
The Northern coniferous forest, a vast ecosystem that remains much the same as it has been for hundreds of year, stretches in a belt from the Atlantic tot he Pacific across central Canada and reaching into some of the northeastern United States. Spruce, fir, and tamarack trees dominate the landscape and provide homes for Spruce Grouse, Three-toes Woodpeckers, Great Grey Owls, Gray Jays, Boreal Chickadees, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Black-throated Green Warblers, and many other warbler species. The Northern Coniferous Forest forms an almost impenetrable belt of evergreen trees across the northern portion of the continent. Dense stands of fir, tamarack, and spruce are interrupted by acidic bogs and in northern regions give way to tundra. |
