Canning Grape Jelly Heat the Jars - 14 Paul puts the jars we will use inverted in a shallow pan with an inch of water. He will turn on the heat in a moderate temperature so the water will gently boil. This sterilizes and heats the jars. You should not put hot jelly in a cold jar. We put out more jars than we expect.
