Making Butterscotch Swirl Biscuits 5. Measure Shortening We fill a 2 cup measuring cup with 1 cup of cold water. We begin to add spoonfuls of soft shortening to the measuring cup with the water to bring the water level up the 1 1/2 cup level. Pour off all of the water leaving just the 1/2 cup of soft shortening. That will give us a 1/2 cup of soft shortening.
