4. The other Vehicle

Here you see the other vehicle involved in the accident. A 1984 1/2-Ton Toyota. We hit it smack in the center as it crossed the street. It suffered much less damage than our van. Fortunately, the young lady did not receive any injuries. She phoned in the accident with her cell phone both for an ambulance and law enforcement officers. She told the officers she was at fault. In seconds a Springfield Policeman arrive who had been just passing by. It turned out that he was our neighbor who lives next to our home there in Pleasant Hill on his way to work. He set out flares. A minute later a Deputy Sheriff arrived in a pickup towing a boat from the nearby reservoir. Minutes later a Oregon State Policeman arrived to take over. An ambulance then arrived to take Bernice and Paul away to the hospital. The police then directed the destroyed van to be towed away after we left. Our van was totaled.
