Our Honeymoon Car

Paul and Bernice Noll Family 1953-2000

11. Our Honeymoon Car

Bernice and I had bought this 1948 Oldsmobile in San Francisco for $48 just before we were married. We could barely afford the car. Bernice had $30 and Paul had $20. The other $2 went for the license. The dealer had advertised in the paper, "100 cars under a $100." He asked $88 for the car and we said we couldn't afford it. He then lowered the price to $78 and Paul was thinking how he could afford the additional money. After some silence while Paul was thinking he said, "$68." Paul started to figure again and after some silence the man said "$58." Paul then just waited in silence and eventually the man said, "$48." We said OK. The car lasted for 2 years when it threw a rod on a hill in San Francisco and we then sold it for $20. We took it on our honeymoon. We are on our way to the Oregon Coast. The car had been in a wreck but it was the first car we ever had with an automatic transmission. It was nice inside.
