12. Our First Home in Berkeley

After we were married in Oregon Paul and Bernice lived in this house. Paul bought it when he went to the University of California in Berkeley. He had rented it out rooms to students to help pay for his education. He also worked in the University Library. Paul paid $6,000 for the house. Payments were $60 a month and taxes were $60 a year. We moved in the house in 1955 and then sold it in 1957 for $9,000 to move to Hayward some 25 miles away.
