Celebrities and Their Cars - Page 10 Laurel and Hardy in their Buick Series Model 30-45 Phaeton Laurel and Hardy were a comedy double act during the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema. The team was composed of English thin man Stan Laurel and American fat man Oliver Hardy. They became well known during the late 1920s through the mid-1940s for their slapstick comedy, with Laurel playing the clumsy and childlike friend of the pompous bully Hardy. For General Motors, William Durant bought the Rainier Motor Car Company in 1909. A new company, the Marquette Motor Company was established. The Marquette line rode on an 114 in wheelbase and was powered by an L-head six producing 67 hp. Marquette was built to sell in the $1,000 range.
