Scotch Broom

Flowers Growing at our Home

Scotch Broom

Cytisus scoparius Evergreen. This one has given all brooms a bad name. Has spread like weed over thousands of acres of open land in northern California and Northwest. Upright growing mass of wandlike green stems (often leafless or nearly so) may reach 10 feet. Golden yellow 3/4 inch flowers, spring and early summer. We remove these whenever they appear. I took this picture along the road. Ours are small and we dispatch them quickly.
