Grand Fir

Trees Growing at Our Pleasant Hill Oregon Home

Grand Fir

Abies grandis Native to the Siskiyou Mountains of California, northern mountains of Oregon and Washington. Grown as a live Christmas tree. Grows to 90-200 ft. tall in the wild, and almost as tall in Northwest gardens. I discovered one of these in our big circle in 2001. It was a seedling perhaps two foot high sheltered under the large Douglas Firs. I have now observed several others in our woodlands. I suspect a bird contributed these gems. We have discovered about 5 more of these trees. Bernice, by contrast, stand 5 foot 2 inches high.

It has done well here in this environment. by 2005 it has grown to about 8 feet high.
