Alder Dune Campground

3. Entrance Sign

On our first night at the Oregon coast we stayed at Alder Dune Campground. Part of Siuslaw (Sye You Slaw) National Forest, the Forest Service operates the campground. Rates amount to $15 a night but with a Golden Age Passport, available for seniors 62 and older, they cut the rates in half to $7.50.

The Angel Job Corps built this campground in the late 1960s. At that time the corps was primarily a forestry-oriented program. The corpsmen came from the East Coast to gain skills and live in different environment.

Located a few miles north of Florence, Oregon.
Open: Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Check out time: 2 p.m. Camping limit: 10 days
