Blackcap Raspberry (Black Raspberry, Whitestemmed Backcap)

Rubus leucodermis - General: Erect, arching (some branches arch back to the ground), to 2 meters tall; stems covered with a whitish bloom; armed with curved, flattened prickles. Leaves: Alternate, deciduous, crinkly, 3 (occasionally 5) egg-shaped, sharp-toothed leaflets with tiny white undersides. Flowers: White to pink, small (203 cm across); in clusters of 3-7, terminal or in leaf axils. Fruit: Hairy raspberries, about 1 cm across, initially red but becoming purple to black; edible and good. Found in disturbed area (especially burned clearcuts), thickets and open forests; common and often in abundance, at low to middle elevations.
