Small Flowered Buttercup (Little Buttercup)

Ranunculus uncinatus - Locally common, early summer, annual or perennial, 6-24 in. Basal and lower stem leaves with 2-6 in. petioles, soft-haired, more or less round to heart-shaped, divided into 3 shallow lobes divided again, 3-toothed segments, hairs flat on surface; middle stem leaves smaller. Flowers single on stalks above large leafy bract. Flower tiny, 2-5 petals quickly falling, light to medium yellow. Seed with curved beak. Grows in moist soils, shaded woodlands, forests, beaches, disturbed places, at low to high elevations. Native.
