Douglas's Catchfly

Silene douglasii - Common, all spring and summer, perennial, 4-15 in. Mound, flower stem lax becoming upright. Stems and leaves coated with fine hairs. Leaves lance-shaped, opposite, becoming smaller up stem, lower leaves 1-2 1/2 in. long. White to greenish or pinkish flowers, each cup 1/2 in. deep with fine hairs but no glands, petals longer and barely notched at tip, 2 appendages topping each petal at flower center. Grows in dry open slopes, grassy areas, shrublands, forests, at mid to high elevations. Native.
