Maidenhair Fern

Adiantum pedatum - General: Delicate, palmately branched; leaves few or solitary from stout (3 to 5 cm thick), scaly rhizomes, but from colonies in suitable habitats. Leaves: Bright green (reddish-brown at base) stripes; blades long and narrow, once pinnate; leaflets oval to round, round-toothed, opposite at base, becoming alternate upwards. Ecology: In moist, shaded, sheltered crevices on rocky limestone (or other basic rock) bluffs or talus slopes; middle to alpine elevations.
