Gnome Plant (Long Tailed Ginger)

Hemitomes congestum - Waxy-pink saprophytic herb (brown when dry) to 15 cm high, from a fleshy rootstock; leaves overlapping in a dense spike somewhat resembling a conifer cone. Leaves: Scale-like and overlapping; edges ragged and with irregular hairs. Flowers thin and transparent, erect, pinkish, bell-shaped; petals partly fused, to 1.5 cm long; in dense terminal spikes, each flower with a bract.
