Mountain Gooseberry

Ribes montigenum - Locally common, midsummer, perennial, 8-40 in. Low, spreading, branched shrub. Stems and branches coated with gland-tipped hairs and spines. Leaves 1 in. across, deeply lobed, lobes toothed, hairy, glandular. Cluster of 4-7 small flowers. Flowers in whitish green to pinkish cup of reflexed sepals, petals red, pink, or purplish, stamens about equal in length to petals. Berries orange-red, covered with gland tipped bristles. Grows in many habitats at high elevations. Native.
