Boschniakia hookeri Yellow to red or purple parasitic herb to 12 cm tall from a thickened tuber-like underground stem. Leaves scale-like (like the scales on a conifer cone), broad, overlapping, Usually growing on salal, at low elevations, southwester B.C. south to northern Califiornia. Species of this genus are root parasites. That is, they are connected to the roots of nearby plants and derive nutrition from them.
