Thick-leaved Groundsel (Mountain Meadow Butterweed)

Senecio crassulus - Locally common, late summer, perennial, 8-26 in. Several erect stems on hairless plant. Leaves thick, succulent, toothed. Lower leaves 2-5 in. long, oval, with petioles; upper leaves clasping stem. Inflorescence branched, with few to several stalks, yellow flower heads. Flower heads hold 8 ray flowers surrounding 1/4-1/2 in. center of disk flowers. Grows in moist meadows, open forests, rocky places, in subalpine and alpine. Native.
