Fluted Black Helvella

Helvella lacumosa - Dark, saddle shaped cap with a fluted stalk. Cap: 3/8 - 2 in. wide, 3'8 - 2 in. high. Season: January - February in Southwest. Habitat: on the ground or decaying wood, in both deciduous and coniferous woods. Range: Widely distributed, but especially common in Pacific Northwest.
