Cladonia Furcata Lichen

Cladonia furcata - Stalk (podetia) moderately to richly branched, tall to 10 cm. gray green, brownish, or pale greenish, sometimes blackening at the base; axils open, the edges inrolled, and often with a longitudinal inrolled fissure extending down the podetium from the axil; fertile branches often more or less flattened and fissured. Found in moist coastal forests at low to mid elevations, frequent on partly shaded roadcuts. Found from Alaska to California. Found on soil. moss, and humus occasionally on rotten wood or tree bases.
