Sphaerophorus Tuckermanii Lichen (Ball-headed Coral Lichen)

Sphaerophorus tuckermanii Thallus fruticose, forming erect tufts to 10 cm diameter; color white, light gray, cream or orangish tan when exposed; branches round in cross section, solid; cortex shiny apothecia common, terminal, spherical, bursting open irregularly exposing a spore mass. Range is Alaska to California. with rare inland to Northern Idaho. Grows on bark and wood. Habitat is moist forests at low to mid elevations.
