Yellow Glacier Lily (Glacier Lily)

Erythronium grandiflorum - Common, early spring, perennial, 6-12 in. Erect flowering stem from a pair of shiny unmarbled, mid-green leaves. Leaves 4-8 in. long, less then 1/2 as wide. Stem 6-12 in. with 1 or 2 nodding bright yellow flowers. Flowers lighter-colored at the base, petals strongly reflected, anthers cream to yellow or dark red, longer than pistil. Grows in alpine or subalpine meadows, forest openings, among sagebrush, at mid to high elevations but also low elevations in Colorado River gorge. Found blooming just after snowmelt.
