Black Rubber Cap

Sarcosoma latahense - Description: Black rubbery cup with hairy, grayish-black outer surface. Cup: 1-2 in. wide, 3/8 1 1/4 in. high; turban-shaped at first, expanding to cup-shaped; inner surface dark purplish-black to black, shiny. Flesh gelatinous at first, becoming rough. Stalk (when present) slight and stout. Season: May to June. Habitat: On decayed wood and soil in coniferous woods, often near melting snowbanks. Range: Pacific Northwest.
