Larch Polypore (Quinine Conk)

Fomitopsis officinalis - Tough, white to yellowish, hoof-shaped, stalkless cap with whitish pores. Cap: 2-8 in. wide; knob like becoming hoof-shaped; white to yellowish, dry, slightly encrusted to furrowed and cracked with age. Season: Year-round. Habitat: On conifers, especially larch and pine. Range: Michigan west to Washington, south to California and Colorado.
