Fragrant Popcorn Flower

Plagiobothrys figuratus - Locally common, late spring-early summer, annual, 5-15 in. Erect, unbranched or branched from base, hairy. Leaves linear; lower leaves few, 1/2- 2 in. long, occurring in pairs; upper leaves few, 1/2-2 in. long, alternate. Inflorescence often consisting of paired spikes of mostly loose coils becoming 2-8 in., at end of season calyx coated long shaggy hairs, sometimes rusty-colored. Flowers fragrant, showy, white with large yellow center. Grows in wet grassy areas, edges of water. Native.
