Wildflowers Found in Oregon Merten's Rush Juncus mertensianus - Tufted perennial with rhizomes; stems leafy, rounded to somewhat flattened, 5-30 cm tall, with brown to purplish basal sheaths. Leaves few to several basal leaves, stem leaves 1-4, half rounded with crosswalls. Inflorescence: Terminal, several to many flowers in a shorter to longer than the head; flower scales dark brown, 3-4 mm long, long pointed ; 6 stamens.
