Hunan is the birthplace of Mao Zedong and is the premier rice-growing province. It is an important producer of tung oil seed and produces 12% of the nation's rice. It is the second-biggest producer of pork and the third-largest producer of cigarettes, rapeseed and citrus fruits. It is one of the leading mineral producers in China, especially of non-ferrous metals. Its deposits of antimony and tungsten are among the largest in the world and of those of bismuth and fluorite the largest in China. Lead, zinc, mercury, kaolin, and graphite are found in great supply. Industry includes specializing in locomotives, tractors, heavy machine tools, and high precision electronic equipment.
