Liaoning is the richest of China's northeastern provinces. It contains four major ports -- Dalian, Dandong, Yingkou, and Jinzhou -- and a heavy industrial hinterland around the capital of Shenyang. Industries in the province include metallurgy, petrochemicals, machinery, and electronics. Eighty per cent of all precision machine tools made in China come from Liaoning. It ranks in the country's top three including beer, coke, alternators, pig iron, steel, and plate glass. Liaoning ranks among the top five provincial producers of beef, mutton, poultry, fish, shrimps, prawns, crabs, and shellfish.
