Paul Noll Joins the US Army
21. My Pay Record I included this document to show how much money you get for taking the chance to get killed in a war. My pay record shows I was to be paid $102.90 a month as a private and then $111.90 as a Private First Class and then a whopping sum of $137.95 as a Corporal. That is of course after they withhold some funds for various "Voluntary Donations" such as war bonds and the Red Cross. If you did not donate to the Red Cross they took your name for the purpose of intimidation. Of course most of the time we were not paid in Korea because we were in small isolated units. Not that we could use the money as there was nothing to buy. We also got 30 days paid vacation per year but were not allowed to take it in Korea so I lost more than 70 days vacation. But think of the fun and experience we had. I learned to read and write Korean while I was in Korea. It was quite easy to learn for me. ⇦ Back to Scene 20 Return to Page 4 On to Scene 22 ⇨ |
