Paul Noll Joins the US Army
22. My Mess Card for the USS Randall to Japan When the 581st Sig RR went to Japan on the way to Korea we traveled on the USS Randall. This is the USS Randall mess card for Paul Noll. Each soldier gets a card for his food. You might guess that it prevents you from eating twice, but it is more likely that it identifies each soldier on the ship. I you look at the back you will get a better picture of its use. The card has numbers for each day and a B, L, and D for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They did punch it each time. You were assigned a time for your compartment. The ship's head (toilet) is something else. It is a long trough with seats every 2 feet, perhaps 40-feet long. Water is running constantly in the trough but when the ship pitches too much, the water backs up and then a tidal wave will approach. You had better pick up you pants and stand up to keep dry. ⇦ Back to Scene 21 Return to Page 4 On to Scene 23 ⇨ |
