Tacoma Relay - 1969-70
51. Tacoma Site Dining Room and Briefing Charts
The Mess Hall contained the kitchen and dining room. It was open all night and the cooks would leave left over food and snacks out for us to eat after the movies. There were 3 choices on a menu to choose from at each meal. We always drew extra rations from our supply point so we had plenty to share with the cooks and their families, for trading material or parties. It had table clothes, curtains and a painting of a race car above the door. I conducted my VIP tours from here and also had my briefing charts that I had made set up in the dining room. The cooks and helpers were nice people and they and the other Koreans on site really made it possible for us GI's to get the radio work done. They also made it comfortable and helped to make the fun times that we had together possible. All of us guys enjoyed having the children of the site personnel and their friends come up for an American meal and to watch a movie. We also had elders from the community visit and see a motion picture for the first time in their live. It was great to see all of their faces and expressions as they watched the movies and I always wondered what they were saying to each other about things they were seeing and what went through their minds. ⇦ Back to Page 50 Return to Page 7 On to Page 52 ⇨ |
