Tacoma Relay Station Tacoma Relay - 1969-70 52. Cook Fishing below Tacoma Site

Sometime SFC Diaz and I would go fishing with our cook Mr. Cha at a small farm pond below the site. Mr. Cha would keep every tiny fish he caught putting them into a can. I asked him why he didn't put back the small ones and let them get bigger? He replied "If I no take small fishy some other person would catch small fishy and I get nothing. Made since to me but I did not do a lot of fishing knowing the fish were just the size of minnows. I do have a nice bamboo fishing pole that the Korean site personnel gave me as a going away gift. I do not use it as it is valuable to me and I appreciate the gift greatly. Thank you all."

During some of my off duty time I would walk to a couple of schools in the area to teach conversational English. My friend Kim from a farm house near the site enjoyed hanging around me when he could and usually acted as my guide. It was difficult to get from one point to another because of all the rice paddy levees, dikes, water ditches and channels which were a maze to follow, narrow, slippery and made direct travel impassable. Sometime the classes were just held in a local farm house but navigating by foot to the various classrooms was difficult.
