Bird Feeders at Our Pleasant Hill, Oregon Home 4. Thistle Feeder for the Birds This shows our Thistle Feeder we put up for the birds. We separate the feeders so different birds can feed without trouble from the bullies. We try not to distinguish between good birds and bad birds. They are all God's creatures. Some you can like more than others but each has it place. Bear Problem We had a problem. In 2002 while we taught in China a black bear visited us and demolished all the feeders looking for food. The thistle feeder he destroyed completely so we had to replace it with this one. It hangs on a 3/4 inch iron reinforcing rod. We placed it near the Douglas Fir so the birds can land in the tree and 'case the joint' to decide if it is safe to feed. Some big birds bully others but the smaller ones wait out the big guys and get their share. On to Page 5 ⇨On to Page 3 Return to Bird Feeders Page 1 |
