Step Eight, Score Top Crust

For your crust you will need to score the crust. This allows for steam to escape. I am not especially artistic so I use a simple flower design. In the center score through the dough but not too long. The other lines are just decorative. Failure to score the top crust will cause the steam to lift the crust when baking. One of my dear Aunts (now deceased) could draw some most artistic designs. We would invite her over when we did pies to do just that and she had a great time doing the artwork.
