My First Car, a 1936 Chevy Paul Noll Growing Up

94. My First Car, a 1936 Chevy

I bought this 1936 Chevrolet in 1948 when I was seventeen. It cost $150. It was a two seater and I drove it to school on occasions. It ran good but had a few problems not associated with today's cars. It had mechanical brakes, not hydraulic. It did not have sealed beam headlights. It didn't go fast but that was fine. I drove it to Seattle to see my Dad in 1949. I took it with me to the army when I joined in 1949. I drove it from California to New Jersey when the army posted me there. It eventually died and I sold it for $100. It was stolen when I was in the army at Fort Ord but returned. After I sold it in New Jersey it was involved in a bank robbery and the police came to see me. The robbers had not transferred the title or plates. It was exciting for a while when I was arrested.
