Glendoran Magazine Article - 1986
Though it no longer exists, it left an impact on the community. It was a home to many youngsters through the years. Lark Ellen Home for Boys, originally established in 1890 and then known as the home for "newsboys", came to the San Gabriel Valley in 1950 and was located on Citrus Avenue, between Azusa Pacific University and Citrus College. The Home had several other locations and had been renamed in 1897, because of the many generous contributions of Ellen Beach Yaw, a famous opera singer, whose stage name was Lark Ellen. A street in Covina was also named after her as she was a resident of that community for many, many years having lived at the corner of Barranca and Cameron Avenues. She also had a regal estate before that at Lark Ellen Avenue and San Bernardino Road. |
