One of the house mothers at the Home was Miss Maybelle Petit, who mended the boys clothes, checked on their school work, discussed personal problems and helped them make adjustments, just as any other mother would. After 21 years of service to the Home, she retired in 1961, She is now deceased. When the formal dedication of their 18-acre facility was held in 1950, Goodwin Knight, Lt. Governor of the State of california was in attendance, along with many other dignitaries. Lark Ellen Home was considered an outstanding institution in caring for children in the state. |
